A whitehead is a closed comedone, where the clogged pore stays covered by a thin layer of skin, appearing as a small white or flesh-toned bump. Because it isn't exposed to air the way a blackhead is, it keeps its pale colour. It's another early-stage lesion, common before more inflamed acne develops.
